5 Tips for Better Dating in 2020

Our schedule used to be packed with work, friends, fitness and Netflix shows; we tried to date but life was just too busy! Since COVID-19 cancelled our 2020 plans, things became slower and changed the world of dating indefinitely. Swiping on dating apps became less relevant, sporadic encounters fell to a minimum, and everything seemed to stop for a moment in time. But summer dating season has arrived and although things are different, things are also quickly moving into high-gear. Find out how to achieve success while dating this summer!

Here are tips to land the perfect date:

1. Don’t rush it

Most dating apps focus on casual encounters and lead with the perfect selfie, but don’t be discouraged. Dating apps are not meant for grocery shopping! Stop thinking about ‘saving time’ by skipping smaller things like vetting your matches. Ain’t nobody got time for someone whose bio reads “cereal killer.” Okay, that’s a cute bio regardless of its popularity :)

Who is this cereal killer during the daytime though? Do they like picnic spreads in the park on a sunny Sunday? Are they a dog or cat person? If they aren’t compatible with my Fido, I’m leaving the chat. The bottomline is, use a dating app that encourages conversation over endless swiping. Would you prefer a pool of matches with zero personality or a handful that make your blush everytime you talk?

2. Read profiles and expand your comfort zone

A personality you find attractive might come from a body that’s not typically “your type”. Cast a wider net initially. And if someone is looking for an actual relationship, you’ll quickly pick-up on these cues if you READ THEIR PROFILE. We know summer is here but pull off those sunglasses to read! There’s nothing wrong with spending extra time to look for green flags (and red) in your potential date. Remember when Riverdale showed us Betty and Jughead make a way better couple than Betty and Archie? You never know what’s ahead until you take a chance.

3. Get photo ready in a different way

Nobody likes looking at decade old photos of their potential date. Why? Imagine facetiming during quarantine to find they aged overnight? Unless they confess possessing a time travelling DeLorean, move on! The same rule applies to you- upload recent photos of you doing fun things but make sure you steal the spotlight. Let your gallery be as diverse as you are, give your date a sneak-peek into your summer walking trails, Saturday Catan nights with friends or even your last birthday party! Your photos should reflect your personality to attract the “right” person which also means keeping those extravagant beach-bod pics tucked away for another day. Let someone fall in love with ALL of you and use a dating app that verifies a person’s identity. Goodbye cat-fishing!

4. Try distance dating with S’More Explore

During this whirlwind of a time we are living in, we are all experiencing travel FOMO. But let’s face it: who wastes an entire summer not traveling anywhere? Look beyond your city limits and venture into distance dating with S’More Explore. Ilsa doesn’t visit Rick’s bar in Casablanca for nothing, she comes looking for him. Don’t let distance limit your dating life, your soulmate might be living in another state! For those of you not living in or around NYC, Boston, DC, Chicago or (coming soon) LA- you can still test-drive the Love is Blind experience this summer! S’More’s latest feature gives you the opportunity to virtually date anyone in the country! Or if you are just looking for friends to watch movies via Netflix Party with, S’More Explore has got your back as well.

5. Get on the right kind of app!

If you want something more, get on an app designed for the outcomes you’re looking for. There are some mainstream apps out there that feel a little Wal-Mart like, and although we love Wal-Mart, we don’t think you should be shopping at one for a relationship. Get on an app focused on relationships.

Are you ready for Something More?

Following these simple steps will lead you to dating success even in the middle of a pandemic. You’ll soon be enjoying your next Netflix obsession with your new obsession ;), sippin' on pumpkin spiced everything this Fall. And cuffing season is right around the corner, so get to it!
